TEACHING
Over the past 35 years I have been fortunate enough to have been able to teach in a wide range of educational situations. They include school class room teaching from the age of 5 until 18, national & international workshops, colleges & universities and of course private one to one. I am proud that I am able to utilise my experience and professional writing and performance skills in a educational and productive manner. In particular tailoring my scoring & arranging skills to fit exactly to students needs. In addition to playing piano & trumpet I am competent on a variety of instruments which include some woodwind, other brass and most rhythm instruments. This not only gives me a better insight into writing but enables me to enthuse, motivate and develop students from any starting point whether beginners or advanced from any musical background. My experience with singers both as an arranger and accompianist enables me to contribute in a variety of educational ways.

Groove & Improve comprises of
one to one lessons are for all instruments: Brass, woodwind, strings, rhythm instruments (piano,guitar, bass, drums) and vocals.
Lessons will contain a balance of
- Traditional exercises and melodies
- Groove & improve music
- Ensemble music (band parts)
Groove & Improve ‘one to one’ lessons allow membership into a regular rehearsal band that will practise and perform a range of contemporary styles such as pop, reggae, latin & jazz etc
There are 3 levels of bands
Band 1 (Beginner)
STARLETS
Band 2
MOVERS & GROOVERS
Band 3
GOPRO
All bands have the opportunity for a student rhythm section of piano (keyboards), guitar, bass and drums.
Bands ( ensembles) can be any combination of instruments or if desired for example they can be all strings or woodwind with a rhythm section.
All music will be provided for the bands as an extension of the one to one lessons
The best motivation for any student is to be part of a cool band playing fun music that they can relate to.
Groove & Improve is structured so this is a natural transition from the one to one lessons.
This allows students to see an immediate connection and path from daily routines.
Reading music is an integral part of our groove and improve programme but we also recognise the importance of developing many other critical skills.
Our music is tailored to develop skills such as aural perception, dynamics, articulation, stylistic awareness, ensemble co-ordination, just to mention just a few.
